Term Reflective Essay Instructions/Writing Requirements
Purpose: Demonstrate an understanding of the Department of Joint, Interagency, Intergovernmental, Multinational (DJIIM).
Assignment Instructions: Review attached journal entries, discussion board posts, and essay (attached separately). Write a 2 – 3-page substantive essay (Body), NOT including title page or reference page, demonstrating an understanding of what was learned this term (DJIIM). In reviewing the Enabling Learning Objectives (ELOs), write how you can employ the lessons learned. List at a minimum two references utilized during the term. The essay must have a minimum of two level one headings, to include the Conclusion.
During the term, you were exposed to joint functions applied in the Joint Planning Process (JPP) of command and control, intelligence, fires and information operations, movement and maneuver, and protection (the ELO’s).
Reflecting on what you have learned, how important are the joint functions in the Joint Planning Process (JPP)?
Please use at least one real-world example to support your response (personal experience is usually easier to write about).
Based on lessons taught in this term, do you believe that your understanding and knowledge of JIIM Operations has increased or remained the same? Please elaborate with specific examples.
It is hard to express how “you believe” without first person however, do not get first person crazy. Moderate, necessary use will be acceptable.
Briefly summarize which two DJIIM subjects were most useful to you as a senior military leader in your career management field, or, as a senior enlisted advisor preparing to assume a joint assignment billet.

- Typed in MS Word
- Double-spaced
- Standard paper format (8.5″ x 11″)
- 1″ margins on all sides
- Size 12 pt. Times New Roman font
- Use flush-left alignment and ragged right; do not divide words at the end of the line.
- Indent paragraphs 0.5″
- Use two spaces at the end of a sentence.
- Abbreviations: The first time you use a term, spell it out in full, followed by its abbreviation in parentheses; thereafter, you may use the abbreviation only.
