PART B: Speech Critique (10 points)
Objective: Analyze the non-verbal delivery cues during different mediated presentation formats and subsequent impact on speaker’s initial impression and overall credibility.

Required types of virtual/video formats:

1)  Full-frame recording of a face-to-face presentation audience (e.g., TedTalk videos)
2)  Partial-frame recording of an online presentation filmed from a computer webcam (e.g, You Tube Channels) or a phone/tablet (e.g., Facebook Live)

Instructions:

1) Find and watch (1) each of the above types of virtual/video-based presentations.
·  For full-frame and partial-frame videos, acceptable speakers include: professionals (i.e., media, politicians, pastors, business leaders or others in a professional role for which they are paid or assigned), recognized authorities, subject matter experts, or social media content creators.
·  FB LIVE broadcasts: anyone using the format on Facebook — from a friend, to a business owner, celebrity or any of the listed above.
·  Timing: Length will vary across format, but aim for anywhere from 3-20mins.
2) Compare and contrast the two types of presentations you watched in terms of non-verbal delivery cues, initial impression and overall credibility.
List:
FULL-FRAME RECORDING:
Title of Video: (Add)
Name of Presenter: (Add)
Web link to view file: (Add)
PARTIAL-FRAME RECORDING:
Title of Video: (Add)
Name of Presenter: (Add)
Web link to view file: (Add)
Analysis:
1) How does the volume of the Full-frame speaker compare to the partial-frame speaker? What impression do you make of the speakers based on their volume?
2) How does the eye contact of the Full-frame speaker compare to the partial-frame speaker? Is the eye contact direct or do you notice eye drift? How does each speaker’s eye contact impact your impression of him or her?
3) How does the vocal tone/passion of the full-frame speaker compare to the partial-frame speaker? What impression do you make of the speakers based on their volume?
4) How does the facial expression of the full-frame speaker compare to the partial-frame speaker? Are you more aware of the speaker’s expressions with the smaller viewing “frame” of a phone or tablet recording? Are their expressions consistent with the emotional tone of the content delivered? Do you notice any inconsistencies (e.g., smiling inappropriately or not enough)? How does each speaker’s facial expressions impact your impression of him or her?
5) How do the hand gestures of the full-frame speaker compare to the partial-frame speaker? Are you more aware of the speaker’s gestures with the smaller viewing “frame” of a phone or tablet recording? Are they more distracting or more impactful? Do you notice any fumbling or fidgeting? How does each speaker’s gestures impact your impression of him or her?
6) Overall, which speaker did you enjoy listening to most? Explain
7) Do you feel the format (full frame v partial frame) enhanced, reduced or in some other way impacted your overall impression of each speakers’ credibility? Explain
